Family Villa In Sintra

This project consists of the reconstruction of an existing house in a protected site, where the gross floor area and net floor area cannot be increased, but with the intention of adapting the conditions of current security and comfort, redesigning the interior program keeping the residential use, and providing a new image to the proposed compound.

The existing distribution of spaces depreciated the level of comfort and experience in terms of the spaces themselves. For that reason alone, we chose to reverse this organization, from the private area of the house to be facing North/West and social area South/West. Thus it will ensure a better use of sunlight as well as a better connection of the interior spaces with the exterior.

The pedestrian and vehicle access are now only possible through a patio oriented Northeast, which now becomes a small garden of welcoming. From here you access the social space that includes the living and dining area, directly connected to the kitchen and laundry area. From the living room we access to two private areas of housing: on level floor 0, a small hall is the distribution for two bedrooms and a bathroom facility that also supports the social spaces of this floor. The access to the 1st floor is also made ​​from the living room by a single staircase. In this floor we have the master bedroom with its own sanitary facility, and access to a terrace facing West, extending the space of the room to the outside.

Regarding the overall image of the housing, despite remaining in its whole the existing volumetry, we opted for a simplification, in terms of coating tones, now whiter, also in terms of the elements that set the overall view, now less complex. Due to programmatic and luminosity issues, all the window openings were redesigned, generally increased in its width, while allowing a greater relationship with the outer surrounding.
